About
The Journal of Nurse Anesthesiology & Perioperative Practice was founded on the belief that valuable scholarship extends beyond traditional research and comes from clinicians closest to the patients. We provide a rigorous scholarly home for high-quality case reports, case series, clinical observation reports, evidence-based practice projects, quality improvement initiatives, scoping reviews, human factors and patient safety reports, perioperative innovations, and thoughtful perspectives on emerging issues facing our professions. The emphasis is always on work that is scientifically sound, clinically applicable, and capable of improving patient care.
Our mission is to improve patient care by publishing work that informs clinical practice, stimulates thoughtful discussion, and advances the science, education, safety, and delivery of anesthesia and perioperative care. We believe the most impactful scholarship begins with the questions clinicians ask every day at the bedside, in the operating room, and across the perioperative continuum.
Modern perioperative care is fundamentally interdisciplinary, and so is JNAPP. We enthusiastically welcome submissions from certified registered nurse anesthetists, student registered nurse anesthetists, perioperative and perianesthesia nurses, physician assistants, advanced practice nurses, perfusionists, neuroscience/neuromonitoring specalists, engineers, quality and safety professionals, educators, researchers, and healthcare leaders. We believe that the best ideas emerge through collaboration across disciplines, specialties, and practice settings.
Beyond publishing scholarship, JNAPP strives to serve as a forum for collaboration, mentorship, and professional dialogue. We seek manuscripts that not only report findings, but also challenge assumptions, share practical lessons, identify emerging trends, and inspire innovation. Whether exploring a rare clinical scenario, translating evidence into practice, improving systems of care, or examining the human factors that shape perioperative safety, our goal is to foster meaningful conversations that advance the profession.
We are excited to launch this journal and invite you to become part of its community of authors, reviewers, and readers. Together, we can build a trusted source of clinically meaningful scholarship that elevates perioperative practice and ultimately improves the care of patients around the world.
Focus and Scope
The goal of the Journal of Nurse Anesthesiology and Perioperative Practice (JNAPP) (ISSN 3143-3308) is to publish high-quality, peer-reviewed scholarly work dedicated exclusively to clinically grounded contributions in nurse anesthesiology and perioperative nursing. This journal will publish original papers on topics such as case reports, case series, clinical observations, practice-based insights, scoping reviews, rare complications and near miss events, evidence-based practice and quality improvement (QI) initiatives, and innovations in perioperative management. The journal will not publish traditional experimental research, randomized trials, or hypothesis-driven studies. Instead, it will serve as a rigorously reviewed platform for clinically meaningful, practice-facing scholarship. JNAPP will fill a significant gap in nurse anesthesia publishing by providing a venue where CRNAs, fellows, nurse anesthesia residents, perioperative nurses, and clinical leaders can disseminate insights directly relevant to patient care.
The mission and vision of the journal are:
- Mission: To advance nurse anesthesiology and perioperative practice through the dissemination of high-impact, clinically relevant scholarship. The Journal of Nurse Anesthesiology & Perioperative Practice is dedicated to empowering clinicians across the perioperative continuum with rigorous, peer-reviewed, practice-focused scholarship that promotes patient safety, clinical excellence, interprofessional collaboration, and continuous improvement in patient care.
- Vision: To become a leading peer-reviewed journal for clinically relevant, case-based scholarship in nurse anesthesiology and perioperative practice worldwide. Through timely, accessible, and practice-driven publication, JNAPP seeks to accelerate the translation of clinical insight into improved patient outcomes, foster innovation across the perioperative continuum, and cultivate a global community committed to excellence in perioperative care.
